NRO Achieves Eleven Years of “Clean” Financial Audits

By Staff National Reconnaissance Office

The National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) received its eleventh consecutive unmodified (clean) audit of its annual financial statements, an accomplishment unequaled in the U.S. Intelligence Community.

“I am extremely proud of the NRO’s robust financial and management controls. The men and women who manage our federal resources are truly experts in their field,” said NRO Director Dr. Christopher Scolese.

The audit was conducted by Kearney & Company, an independent public accounting firm. Kearney evaluated the reliability of financial data supporting NRO financial statements, the accuracy of the statements, and the accuracy of footnote disclosures in accordance with guidance issued by the Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board, the Office of Management and Budget, and other authorities.

An unmodified or “clean” audit opinion means that the financial statements present fairly the financial position and the results of the organization’s operations in accordance with U.S. generally accepted accounting principles. NRO managers can confidently use this information in day-to-day decisions, knowing it is accurate and reliable.

“Each year my team’s hard work and diligence exceeds their accomplishments from the previous year. I cannot begin to express how extremely proud I am of all of them. Their dedication, extensive knowledge, and experience assure our oversight officials and the American public that they can expect nothing short of excellence from us,” said Misty Tullar, NRO’s Chief Financial Officer and Director of NRO’s Business and Plans Operations Directorate.
