NRO Announces FIA Contract Winner

September 3, 1999

The National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) awarded a contract to the Boeing Company, Seal Beach, Calif., to develop, provide launch integration and operate the nation's next generaton of imagery reconnaissance satellites. This award is the largest and last element of the NRO's Future Imagery Architecture program.

The multi-year effort will provide a more capable but less costly means of fulfilling the nation's imagery needs and includes the ability to accommodate commercial products. The contract cost is classified. Satellite development begins in the middle of the next decade.

In April, the NRO announced that Raytheon Systems Company won the contract for deployment and integration of the ground infrastructure portion of the Future Imagery Architecture, known as the Mission Integration and Development (MIND) Program.
