Brigadier General William M. Fraser will be the new Deputy Director for Military Support at the National Reconnaissance Office and Deputy Director for Operations (National Systems Support) J-35, Joint Staff beginning Dec. 1. In this capacity, Fraser will be responsible for complying with Secretary of Defense direction to ensure that DoD requirements are fully resourced in the National Reconnaissance Program (NRP) and as Deputy Director for Operations (National Systems) J-35, Joint Staff, he will ensure NRO activities provide improved support to combatant commanders. Fraser will also serve as the focal point for NRO operational readiness in the J-3.
Fraser replaces Brig. Gen. Tommy F. Crawford who is moving to HQ USAF as Director of Joint Matters. Crawford has been in his current position since June 1999.
Fraser comes to NRO from Barksdale AFB, La., where he is commander of the 2nd Bomb Wing. He is a command pilot with more than 3,800 hours of flying time and has served as the chief of staff for U.S. Strategic Command, special assistant to the Supreme Allied Commander Europe and commander of the 28th Bomb Wing, Ellsworth AFB, S.D.
