Dennis D. Fitzgerald was selected today as the new Deputy Director, National Reconnaissance Office by the Director of Central Intelligence George J. Tenet, with the concurrence of Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld. Fitzgerald is replacing David A. Kier who is retiring after 35 years of federal service.
Fitzgerald returns to the NRO from the Central Intelligence Agency where he was the Associate Deputy Director of the Directorate of Science and Technology. Fitzgerald had been Director of the NRO's Signal Intelligence Systems Acquisition and Operations Directorate from 1996 until June of this year when he moved over to CIA.
"Mr. Fitzgerald brings a wealth of organizational knowledge and technical expertise to the NRO and is well respected both within the organization and among our partners and customers," said Keith Hall, NRO Director.
