Dr. Donald M. Kerr becomes the fifteenth
Director of the National Reconnaissance
Office (NRO) following appointment by the
Secretary of Defense with concurrence of
the Director of National Intelligence.
Prior to this appointment, Dr. Kerr had
served since August 2001 as Deputy Director
for Science and Technology in the Central
Intelligence Agency (CIA). The NRO is a
DoD agency within the intelligence community
that designs, builds, launches and operates
the nation’s reconnaissance satellites.
Dr. Kerr was the Assistant Director of
the Federal Bureau of Investigation responsible
for the Laboratory Division prior to the
CIA post. He has held several key positions
within private industry and as a member
of the Department of Energy, was Director
of the Los Alamos National Laboratory.
