VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Ca. –
On Monday, April 26, Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines and NRO Director Dr. Chris Scolese joined Chief of Space Operations for the Space Force, Gen. Jay Raymond to watch the successful launch of NROL-82 from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. The Delta V Heavy, built by United Launch Alliance, carried a national security payload designed, built, and operated by the NRO to support its overhead reconnaissance mission.
In a quick meeting with the NRO’s Office of Public Affairs Director Maura Beard, Dr. Scolese and DNI Haines discussed the work that has gone into the NROL-82 launch and the mission success.
“I’ve seen the value that the NRO provides to the intelligence community,” DNI Hanes said as she mentioned her high impressions of NRO leadership, workforce, and the seriousness of which NRO takes its mission and the consistent effort to innovate the whole field.
Dr. Scolese highlighted in the interview the close relationship that NRO, Space Force and Office of the Director of National Intelligence have in this mission and others, stating “we work closely to make sure we’re delivering the best space program that this nation can deliver for the Intelligence Community and the warfighter.”
