The Director of the National Reconnaissance Office is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. The Director reports to the Secretary of Defense who, in collaboration with the Director of National Intelligence, is ultimately responsible for managing and operating the NRO. The DNI establishes requirements and priorities for collecting and delivering intelligence from satellites.
Director of the NRO (DNRO)
The Director of the NRO reports to the Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) and the Director of National Intelligence for all national space and assigned airborne reconnaissance activities. The DNRO provides top-level management of the NRO in accordance with SECDEF and DNI requirements.

Principal Deputy Director of the NRO (PDDNRO)
The Principal Deputy Director of the National Reconnaissance Office reports to and coordinates with the DNRO on all NRO activities. The PDDNRO provides day-to-day management of the NRO on responsibilities delegated by the DNRO; and, in the absence of the DNRO, acts on behalf of the DNRO on all matters.

The Deputy Director of the National Reconnaissance Office assists the Director and Principal Deputy Director in the day-to-day direction of the NRO, as well as serving as the Commander of the Space Force Element at NRO.

Senior Enlisted Leader of the NRO
The Senior Enlisted Leader is the principal advisor to the NRO Director and senior staff on matters relating to the welfare, quality of life, training, discipline, effective utilization, professional development and force structure for the joint service enlisted members assigned to the NRO.
