Personal Assistance Services
Personal Assistance Services (PAS) allow individuals to enjoy the opportunity and independence of employment. PAS are non-medical services that help individuals who, because of targeted disabilities, require assistance to perform basic activities of daily living. Examples may include:

  • Assistance with removing and putting on clothing
  • Assistance with eating
  • Assistance with using the restroom

These services differ from services that help the individual perform job-related tasks or specific job functions. Individuals who wish to request PAS, should follow the procedures outlined in NI 80-3-3 Reasonable Accommodation Process.

The NRO provides PAS to employees who, because of targeted disabilities, require such assistance during work hours or in order to participate in work-related travel—unless doing so would pose an undue hardship.

 

Architectural Barriers Act of 1968- (42 U.S.C. § 4151-57)
The Architectural Barriers Act (ABA) requires access to facilities that are designed, built, altered, or leased with Federal funds. The Access Board is the federal agency responsible for enforcing the ABA. The Access Board's accessibility standards are available on their website.

If you believe that a physical facility that is designed, built, altered, or leased with Federal funds by NRO does not comply with the Architectural Barriers Act (ABA), refer to the US Access Board’s website along with information about filling a complaint.
