By NRO Office of Public Affairs

NRO’s Principal Deputy Director, Dr. Troy Meink, spoke about NRO’s role in national space to an online audience of several hundred during the 2nd annual Ohio Space Forum, May 18, 2021.

According to the event organizers, “The Ohio Space Forum will bring together federal, military, industry, and academic leaders in the dynamic fields of space research, operations, intelligence, exploration and defense. Speakers will address Ohio’s space history, and how the state continues to play a leading role.”

The one-day virtual event was packed with remarks ranging from civil, national, and defense space with speakers including NASA’s Associate Administrator, Mr. Steve Jurczyk, and U.S. Space Force’s Director of Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance, Maj. Gen. Leah Lauderback. Notable Ohioans included Gov. Mike DeWine, Sen. Sherrod Brown, Sen. Rob Portman, and representatives from across the state. A number of defense and industry partners also spoke throughout the day. Dr. Meink’s keynote followed a National Space Council Update presented by retired Gen. Lester Lyles.

No stranger to Ohio himself, Dr. Meink connected with the audience in his introduction by highlighting his education at The Ohio State University, where he received his masters and doctorate degrees, his reserve duty at the National Air & Space Intelligence Center, and his wife’s active duty Air Force assignment at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.
